[ he takes a sip of wine, averting his eyes. the warm feelings aren't going anywhere, but the embarrassment and anxiety are twisting into something directed a lot more sharply inward.

he's not a self conscious person for the most part; just uncomfortable with being painted as something better than he thinks he is, usually. but he's also never come close to a situation like this; despite his feelings for junah, he'd never once considered that she might actually return them. he accepted years ago that that kind of thing just wasn't in the cards for someone like him, and that was fine. he had more important things to do anyway.

but he... doesn't now, really. here there are party games and curses and gossip and he's having to contend with the fact that he really doesn't fit into any of that. now he worries that he's putting people in an uncomfortable spot just by being in the middle of all that with them. ]
