this gets him to laugh - a soft, tired noise, but no less warm for it, and ducks his head, apologetic. it puts his head a little closer to del's while he's working but that's perfectly fine, too. if it hurts, he doesn't show it much. ]
It would have been rightfully deserved... Haha. I'm sorry.
[ a sincere apology to match that soft tone. ] It is... just hard, for me to stand and watch - I did not mean to worry you so.
S'pose I can't give you too much shite for it when I'm the same way.
[ a brief thoughtshare of setting the library door on fire... ]
But y'know, I also almost died once 'cause I tried to tough it out when I got hurt, so I may be a hypocrite, but I'm sort of an expert on the subject too.
[ help not the library fire - there's another laugh. ]
That feels like it was years ago... [ it was the last time taair went off on one of these awful adventures, even - though things went badly, as they always do every weekend, here, it was a good night. though, some of the mirth falls away as it comes with the reminder of that brief little thoughtshare from earlier, that awful creature, and of... really, of the amazing fact they've both managed to make it all the way through this far, despite a history of not always wanting to.
there's a beat. taair shifts, and then gently presses his forehead against his shoulder, since he's right there, and just rests there. ]
[ hard to believe how much of that group had survived to the end, actually. they'd lost elysia and neverah, but everyone else is still here. and thinking how few people who'd stayed at the tavern the last few weeks had gotten involved in any murders... it's probably just luck of the draw, really, but it does sort of make it feel like there's something to the idea of sticking together. he sort of likes that.
he smiles as taair presses his forehead against him — it's cute — and he puts a reassuring hand on his shoulder. he'd much rather he didn't end up in these situations where he kept getting hurt in the first place, obviously, but if someone's got to take care of him, he doesn't mind it being him. ]
[ it gives him a moment to keep his composure, to quietly reflect on a long, whirling week of long, whirling thoughts. he'd been lucky, not to see fidelio on thursday. seeing him in the context of his own thoughtshare was scary enough; slowly, some of the worst of the stress starts to melt away, bit by bit. just a few days, and everyone will return. (just a few days after that, and the end of redemption, the end of this story, a book he's not sure he's ready to close.)
he takes a deep breath - the little kiss to his head makes a little spark go off, internally- and gently leans a little more weight into his, something steady to rest against, lifting his arms to rest gently against his sides, pulling his head up properly to look. tired, but alive. settled like this, even he has to lean up just a tiny bit to press a very soft kiss to his mouth in exchange, taking the place of all the words in his head for once.
when he pulls back, he settles back to lean against him again, relishing in it. a little touch starved, maybe. hard not to be. ]
Someone gifted me an item to heal, but it will take some time to start working - two days to heal, fully. But, it was quite kind, so...hopefully, at least this much is only temporary.
[ thankfully. ]
That night... You were taking care of me even then. [ with a soft laugh. ] Though I seem to recall you insisted otherwise.
[ oh... he flushes a bit looking down at him afterward, sharing the vague thought that that felt nice... and that it'll be nice to maybe do a little more of it once he's in better shape.
the fact that the news about the healing item comes right after that makes him a little pinker, and he raises his eyebrows. ]
What, really?
[ but kissing thoughts aside, his smile broadens and he breathes a sigh of relief hearing that. he doesn't know what to expect from this next week, but whatever it ends up being, it'll be a lot easier to deal with without all those damn injuries. that's one weight off his mind. ]
Well, shite, that's great. Thank 'em for me too, yeah? Never got a single bloody useful item the whole time I was here meself, aside from that whistle Marcoh kept.
[ ...which just brings back memories from the end of trial today, actually, so he quickly comes back from that tangent. ]
...Honestly I was stressin' out about so much that night that I barely remember, but. That does sound like me.
[ HELP!! CUTE!!! okay listen, that vague thought is enough to make him smile too, and even he cannot resist a little bit of mischief -- he sets a delicate hand against his shoulder and pushes back up to give him another peck.
which is probably enough movement for now, actually, though fidelio can see the way his smile perks back up when he pulls away. It was nice.

carefully exchanging gauze and rewrapping those nasty puncture wounds. ]
Lucky you didn't fuck anything back up on that investigation or I'd really be lettin' you have it right now.
[ his tone is pretty soft despite the harsh words, though, and he's being very gentle as he works. ]
