Yes, I'm inclined to believe the latter. Last week, the general and I bonded over a mutual love of birds. We spent quite a bit of time discussing them, quite animatedly. When he was in that bell tower, I brought him a seagull from the beach I had befriended - we both spoke of how we enjoyed their company, and Badr was quite well behaved.
But... he didn't even react. [ indifference, boredom. apathy. ] And it put up, to me, a red flag.
I don't know if many among us would kill someone in our group, especially after we spent this week enjoying each other's company, and mourning the losses we experienced. So... for it to now escalate to two... It worries me that there is a sickness that runs through our collective, of some kind.
I didn't notice anything strange during the proceedings last week either. Not until the gambit had been revealed.
I don't know. I agree with you on the sickness, but I would not rule out willing killers. The apples are a significant temptation, and as much as we may like one another, we are still strangers largely. You never know what is in someone else's heart, what desperation and need they may be hiding.
Wise counsel as always, Miss Shadowheart. [ a very, very good point - apples included. ] We will have to be very thorough in the...proceedings, tomorrow, too.
