Does it? Ah, there's something nice about the similarities that so many homes share, isn't there?
[Worlds apart and yet the same Catholic aesthetic everywhere, damn...]
Oh, but I don't mind in the least. It doesn't have a name, nor does our god, but the most basic tenets revolve around things like respecting the sanctity of life and valuing humanity. Our god is incredibly accepting and loving, as well. Even if this afterlife doesn't belong to my god, I'm still very glad to hear that they sound just as open-hearted...
taair listens to this, hands folded in front of himself - gaze moving from him to the altar and the bible, observing. ]
I think it'd be quite strange if it didn't - those values are universal, or, at least they ought to be. But... yes, it's not so different than the Light of Sanctuary's principles, either.
[ his gaze sweeps back over lucas again, briefly. ] It sounds very important to you.
I do agree that they ought to be... [Unfortunately some religions are made of fish people who worship piles of gore, apparently.
He seems pleased to hear that, though!]
The Light of Sanctuary sounds quite lovely too, though, if that's the case. Ah - but yes, I would consider my faith to be something very important to me, indeed. It's helped me a great deal and I feel I've been able to help others through it, as well.
I do agree with that... But does that mean that you find the body of your faith to be lacking?
[Said with a little note of sympathy. He shakes his head at that, though!]
I don't, really. I do hope that I've helped to lead a few well, but I'm more interested in ensuring that the people of our nation know how to value life, rather than putting any sort of official label on it.
[ mm... thoughtful, as he gathers his words. ] Sometimes, I think that scripture is a blessing. Other times, I think it becomes a weapon - particularly when it is utilized in the name of power.
[ or in politics. there's something a little sad in his face as he looks up at the pretty church's walls, at its cold interior, but he shakes his head. ]
So noted - a lack of labels. [ that's lighter, though, and he regards lucas too, observing him. he's quite a bit like samantha, isn't he... ] How would you want to ensure that, if not through the proselytizing of the belief?
Ah... Yes, I can see how that would be quite troubling, indeed... I do wish that people wouldn't abuse such wonderful things, but it seems some insist on it regardless of the time or planet.
[His expression falls just a little, sympathetic. But he'll look back over from where his gaze had drifted up to the window high above the altar soon enough, back toward Taair.]
If nothing else, I do hope to teach the basic principles to the children. Though I consider that less a mark of faith and more the building of the structures of common sense and courtesy. It's a little more difficult to guide adults who are very stuck in their ways, but I like to believe that humans aren't inherently terrible.
[ it's affection week, so he leans over to give him a little nudge with his shoulder. that people aren't inherently terrible - that they want to do good. ]
[wehehe... He brightens up a little, bumping back. This is not even affection week, he's just surprisingly touchy for a Catholic.]
Good company to be with, then. And I have! For better or for worse, I have a bit of a stubborn streak, myself. It serves me well when dealing with both children and adults.
[ANOTHER SEPARATE BRANCH OF RELIGION. Though he looks very faintly exasperated... at that...]
Yes... It would seem we do have a few troubled souls in our flock. [i typed soups first] It's a very good thing indeed that there seem to be many stubborn people on hand.
Pfft - okay. If you handle the scripture, then, I can teach history. How does that sound?
[ history his BELOVED. wild from dreamwidth user historicals. taair laughs at the faint exasperation, though it's sort of an equally exasperated, kind of sheepish laugh.t he not sure whether to laugh or cry kind of vibe. ]
Yes, that's... certainly one way to put it. [ Oof. ] I hope that perhaps they will find solace, now that we're starting to get used to our surroundings...
Hearing you talk of your teachings warms my heart so - it is part of my own modus operandi. I have... though I've never had the chance to teach a pupil or anything like it, the education of others is incredibly dear to my heart. I am... at least by hobby, a historian.
[ taair reaches down and taps the large holster at his own side - it's holding a decently sized book. ] The spread of knowledge, of truth, is one of the values that I hold the dearest of all.
[THE FACT THAT HE'S JUST HOLSTERING A BOOK LIKE A GUN. But his gaze follows the gesture, and between that and what Taair says, his expression brightens.]
Ah! I see! One doesn't need to be a teacher in official name or title to do a wonderful job of spreading knowledge and truth, so I can only imagine that you've done amazing work in your time, if you have that kind of passion.
[Passion is the NUMBER ONE INGREDIENT!! But also, curiously:] Would you want to, though, do you think? Teach in a more structured setting...?
also this is very sweet - he huffs and ducks his head, smiling, though he doesn't say much of anything to that beyond: ] That's very kind, Lucas. Thank you.
[ because he is a nice boy with manners. the second question does get his attention, and he tilts his head, thinking it over for a moment. a teacher... ]
Hmm... I wouldn't mind. But... if given the choice, I would rather it to be looser - I'd like to be able to travel. [ there's a softness here that blooms like a flower, dawning over his face at the mere thought. ] I would want to be able to share the knowledge I've garnered with as many people as I could. To interview locals in different places - to travel around with a band of friends, and to spend my days exchanging stories, so that we might experience each others lives, and better the told story of Iria, together.
[It's nice to watch people hold their own dreams and futures and the what-ifs they haven't yet come across with such softness, and Lucas' face reflects a level of warmth.]
What a lovely picture you paint... If it's something you wish to do, then I'm sure you can put your mind to it and find a way to turn it into a reality, yes? Traveling, telling stories, gaining more to tell in turn - it sounds like a wonderful way to spend your time in life.
[ there's a slight uptick to his smile there, enigmatic - and if lucas is really paying attention, there's something sad, too. something wistful. ]
It does sound wonderful, doesn't it...? Well - we'll see what happens, I suppose. We've weeks of work ahead of us, either way!
[ and also murder. teasingly: ] I'm afraid I will be a difficult person to recruit to aid you outside of this place in your teaching duty, if that was your aim.
[NOT THE SAD SMILE. If Lucas does notice it, he's too polite to make mention directly, just yet. His nosiness has yet to kick in...
But he'll return the teasing in kind without pause, at least, smiling brightly but also with a fucking goblin air.]
Oh, my! You've found me out... Well, I'd hardly be a good teacher if I didn't enjoy a challenge every now and then, yes? We'll see how you feel by the end of our trials, dear.

[ same altars, same glass windows, same cold vibes. ]
What sort of faith do you practice, Lucas? If you'd not mind telling me of it.

I do hope that's the case, as well. Discomfort with a new environment surely doesn't make things any easier, so it ought to be one less concern.
