[TAAIR IS SUCH A NERD IT'S SO FUCKING FUNNY Lucas is so fond... After he's done doing his slow turnaround and initial admiring of the beautiful paintings, he'll glance back, spot that guidebook, and immediately laugh in a good-natured, pleasant way.]
You're very prepared, aren't you? I would love to, though, so I'll leave the guiding to you. Shall we?
[ he says, practically beaming with his joy. it is no longer emotionshare on his end either but he is just the happiest little hummingbird you've ever seen in your life. ] Well - aside from running to the library to get this book. [ waving his little tourist book like a nerd ]
But, otherwise, this place is as close to a paradise for me as anything we've seen so far. Beyond the library, of course - this is even better. There are so many ruins, Lucas, and so many artifacts, and so many monuments of cultural existence - I could spend eons here and never get bored.
[ DREAMY SIGH
but he nods with that and immediately takes his arm, linking them close together and patting his arm gently. ] Let's enjoy our stroll, yes? I won't let you fall, so feel free to look up as much as you like.
According to my guide, this chapel is the center of the largest organized religion in its home world. The painting on the ceiling is called a fresco, and it was commissioned by Pope Julius II in 1508 - painted almost entirely in the span of four years by an artist named Michelangelo. 1508! Five hundred years and some change from home, for me.
Supposedly, it was originally just going to be a geometric design, but Michelangelo suggested to paint three scenes from the Old Testament, instead, turning what was going to be a simple decoration into an iconic work of art.
It is amazing to think that someone once painted these with their very own hands, isn't it? If we climbed up high, I bet we could see the strokes of their brushes.
[He isn't such a big fat history-lovin' nerd, but this place is grandiose and awe-inspiring in a way that frankly no other building he's ever laid eyes on has been. He'll gently hold onto Taair's arm as they go, trusting that he won't just let him eat shit and staring up at the ceiling as they walk.]
To think that someone worked on this for four entire years... [It means a lot more to an Arpechelean who only has 23 of those to spare naturally.] Even for me, it's hard to imagine working on one single project for that long. But the result does speak for itself, doesn't it...? Absolutely beautiful. I think I may spend most of my time here, this week.
[His tone is lightly jesting, but also, like, he's considering it.]
Four years is an especially long time for you, right? With your island...
[ twenty three years. for taair, it's normal, if only because - well, he's been working on his book for longer - but he likes to share this moment of awe with lucas, to try and see the world through his eyes for a little while. even without emotionshare, he's too empathetic not to, and watching him look around in awe warms him to his core. ]
It is amazing what the human soul can do. When we become passionate about something, it enflames our entire being... I had meant to do something not so different, myself.
[ his precious book!!!!! he takes him down a few more steps through the altar room, looking between his little guidebook and the paintings overhead. ]
You and I both. [ DON'T JOKE HE WILL BE HERE FOREVER. ] Look, do you see? In the center, there.
[ he points upwards again, this time to the central panel. ]
Apparently, that is considered one of the greatest masterpieces of the entire ceiling. Do you see how the fingers aren't quite touching? Supposedly, it is to represent the idea that man could never entirely reach divine perfection.
I think... it's wonderful, to depict scripture and the like this way, too. Art is something anyone can enjoy - literacy is a luxury for so many people in Rodinia, but there are so many devout practitioners of the Light of Sanctuary that it is especially wonderful to know the scriptures can be interpreted visually, too.
[SUCH A BIG CHUNK OF TIME. He'll glance away from the ceiling just long enough to look toward Taair, faintly amused, but reflecting the admiration for a true human soul.]
Mm - your book, yes? [The smile that follows is warm.] It really is incredible what humans can accomplish all with their own strength, power and determination... And a little passion, too.
[THEY WILL BE HERE FOREVER BUT IT'S FINE. He follows as Taair points to the center, and there's something about this, too, that is so incredibly moving.]
It's a very on the nose way of representing it, isn't it? I do enjoy that... It's the sort of thing that anyone can understand and grasp the emotional weight of, when looking at it like this. [Spoken a little quietly, still gazing over the painting.] A perfect tool for teaching and for recording matters of great importance into history, yes?
[ there's a hum of acknowledgement to that - his precious book, which he taps a hand against at his side. thinking on life, on the afterlife. on human souls, and lingering moreso on arpechele, looking up at the paitning above.
humans can never reach divinity. he's seen enough memories of arpechele that it feels, suddenly, much heavier than before. ]
...Lucas. [ a little softer, as he looks at him. ] ...If this is too personal of a question, please feel free to say so, but...
[His precious book... in its book holster like a gun... Lucas glances away from the beautiful painting stretched out all above them like the heavens themselves, looking over toward Taair as he's addressed. His expression is faintly curious, though there's a bit of an amused crinkle to his eye when the question itself is posed.]
It isn't too personal at all, my dear. I do intend to return. I just can't bear the thought of leaving Nadia like that when there's the possibility of going back to her...

We do at some points, yes. He's from farther into the future than I made it, myself. Why do you ask?
