ah - at that he looks up at yves, and then nods, gaze moving back outwards to the beach, brow furrowing. ]
Yes - and that is the thing. Last night, there were quite a few of us at the beach, myself included. We found that there were barriers of some sort, holding us in place...I can show you where they were, if you'd like - but Mizu and I both walked the entire perimeter, and found no gaps.
I don't recall falling asleep, only that it happened - and either way, I saw no sign of Charlie at all.
[ a little nod - his expression goes determined, and taair pats yves' hands, and then turns to go head into the beach area, carefully heading towards the fire pits. ]
Here's where we were, last night. [ .... looking at it makes him feel a bit sadder, actually, and his shoulders sink, but he shakes his head and keeps his gaze focused downward, looking carefully at the sand. i assume his own footsteps are probably still here because i also don't know how mg works, but he stops at the relative spot where the wall was, and holds his hands up as if they would press flat against something, concentrating, then starts to walk along his own footsteps. ]
It was this way... all the way to this spot. I walked vertically, and Mizu walked horizontally... [ pointing down the beach to (mumbles) a direction. ] And we kept going, around the corners, until we met at the same place.
[ he moves his hand this time through open air - no wall. ]
But it's all gone, now. I do think it was some kind of spell.
[ when taair's shoulders sink, yves just automatically reaches out to place a hand at his back reassuringly... patpat. it's really not entirely affection week, most of this is just yves.
but otherwise he'll focus, following along carefully and actually just trying to walk in the same footsteps behind taair. he's quiet for once, listening as he hears the description and then looks down the direction of where mizu was... ]
We were inside. The door locked to the showers, but even with me, Marcoh, and Adolphe all trying—it didn't budge. Marcoh alone should've been enough, but with three of us...?
[ the physical contact is greatly appreciated keep doing it forever please. he makes a thoughtful noise in agreement, because like. look at marcoh. he's massive. ]
It certainly sounds like an enchantment. It felt like one, too - there was a tingling sensation when I touched the wall.
[ or. invisible wall. whatever it was. he drops his hand away finally, looking down at his fingertips. ] And that may also explain why were all put so soundly to sleep. That all of us on the beach may have slept through something awful... I don't know. I'm not a particularly light or heavy sleeper, but I imagine that - certainly Mizu, at least, is likely a very light one.
There's also the matter that nothing seems different. It points likely to a spell, too.
[ the thoughtful observation stops, finally, and he shakes his head, brows furrowing together tightly. ]
... But none of that points to 'why', either. Or how, for that matter.
[ spell..... yves has no idea what the fuck kind of magic would do all this, but when it gets to the heart of the matter he just looks frustrated again ]
... the 'why' keeps confusing me. Resources and food are plentiful. There's no numbers limit on who can be redeemed. So... what motive?
Charlie was sweet—no one deserves to die in general, but I didn't think she'd make a mortal enemy in a week.
[ ugh. charlie was very sweet indeed. he looks saddened, touching a hand to his heart briefly and closing his eyes. ] Kindhearted, and very passionate about redemption - and additionally, passionate about this situation. She told me privately she worried that it was a trick.
She also left herself out of the equation often. "Your all's greatest strength", "your all's redemption", so on and so forth. I think...perhaps some part of me wonders if whatever happened was related to her background, but... it feels wrong to even begin to speculate.
yves will just move his arm then so he can pull taair into a half hug now that they're done investigating so seriously. c'mere, you ]
Even last night, she was trying to keep herself out of the photo we took... I'm glad we didn't let her.
[ it's a memento now, even if it's moments before disaster ]
We don't need to speculate right now. It's easier with evidence, and going from there... if we've hit a wall with that, then... it's okay to just - miss her.
[ more hugs... he's as always just that little bit surprised, but sinks gratefully into the gesture once he adjusts. affection week pulls a lot of weight, but even without it - it's just kind of nice, and it's hard to pull away from something you haven't really had. ]
I'm glad, too. [ that they got a picture. ] Could I see? I think I'd like to.
[ the way that i can't tell you where the affection week ends and the yves' natural tendency toward being affectionate begins
but he smiles just a little ]
Yeah. Of course.
[ with his free hand, he'll dig into his pocket and pull out a truly stupid selfie that he took in the bathroom. he's taking it and in the background are anders, shadowheart, hawke, lucas, adolphe, marcoh, richie, claude, charlie, and elysia. charlie is notably doing lil heart fingers with lucas ]
Cute, right? [ and it does make him feel sad, to look at charlie and think about how she's already gone but ] ... I'm a little more used to death than other people but whenever someone's gone... I just wish I got to keep some part of them before they disappeared.
So maybe it's a little morbid... but I'm glad we took this picture.
also this picture is adorable, but extremely sad in the context - it makes the smile on taair's face just as melancholy as he peers at the screen, though the warmth and appreciation is worth it. ]
I'm glad you did, too - it's not morbid at all. [ said softly - at least not to taair. ] It's a precious gift, to be able to so easily record an image. [ because he's a ye olde and like what are photographs. ]
... It is my firm belief that we all deserve a record of our existence. The mark that we've made on the world, on others...though we hold onto these things as tightly as we can, time can corrode our most precious memories, or even erode them entirely. To have physical proof that someone was there, or that something happened - it bolsters our memory, and keeps those important people and moments as close to crystal clear as we can have them.
[ this specific thing is something he is especially passionate about, even and though his heart aches at not being able to spend a little more time with charlie, to hear her voice or laugh together over outfits at the clothing store, the memories stay with fondness in just looking at this silly picture. ]

Is that okay? Can you show me?
[ looks around at the ground around them ]
And... I know it can be hard to tell, but can you look out for any new sets of footprints?
[ he doesn't know how mg works ]
