[ as he gets closer he'll also spy some vines peeking out of his shirt, winding around his wrists and neck. they have little flower buds, too! ]
Kind of funny, isn't it? I spent half of last week telling everyone I'm not part plant and now this place decided I will be. [ a put-upon sigh. ] You're the first I've seen having trouble with talking, though.
...Maybe it's just bad luck. [ on his part, at least. he does tilt his head to peer curiously at the vines, but he is too polite to ask too much more than that, instead looking past laurence for a moment at the library. ]
But... if a bit of bad luck is what I have to exchange for this place, then I would exchange it tenfold. For myself, at least.
With your all's company, and all the places to stretch our legs, and now this library - it just might be. This section of the library - [ gesturing up at the shelves ] - is all histories, Laurence! There are ones beyond my wildest dreams. Unfathomable amounts of knowledge, all accessible to anyone and everyone who only hopes to dive in.
It means I can continue my research! And it means I could chronicle other things, too, and study up on so many different realms and ideas... I barely even know where to start.
I thought you were just into history because it was your country.
[ why does he care about other places you'll never even have the chance to see. power to him, but it's not really laurence's cup of tea, even if he did ask to read taair's book. ]
Maybe just start with your world? You probably won't have time to read everything.
I care about history because it is the story of our experience.
[ not to get extra passionate or anything, but laurence's meta thought is exactly it. ] One of my very favorite things here has been finding the wonders of connection we all share - across universes, across realms, across even species, we develop similar instincts and similar complexities. Our perspectives are vast, yet we all share the capability to befriend one another, to love others - to appreciate beauty, and to want for more. And I think, despite all the ways we find to fight and harm each other, it is those connections that are the path forward to a more harmonious existence. Two enemies from warring nations can sit by each other and realize they have similar experiences, much like myself and a demiflora can share the joys of each others company.
[ c: ]
And... yes! I think that is the plan - but I want to also look at others, bit by bit. I don't think there'll be too much on Rodinia, or, at least... not much that I haven't already read, but I do so hope I'm wrong.
Sure, but you wouldn't need to know about other worlds...
[ aaaaand there he goes. this is so much that laurence kind of zones out for a second. ]
No one even knew there were whole other worlds before we got here. [ assuming no one else has multiverse theory. ] And that's different - we're here because we're dead, not because we found some other way to "connect."
Are you going to start writing books about other worlds now, or what?
Well, yes! It's not why we're here, but it is an incredibly pleasant side effect.
[ hee hee. he just seems happy as he says it. ]
...I think there are many things I have never been able to experience, in my life. So, I like to live vicariously through others. [ a beat at the last suggestion - laurence can watch the fluffy bluebird wings on his back fluff up a little more. ] And you know - I just might!
I do want to chronicle our story, here. That I know for certain.
speaking of. some of those blue feathers at his wings seem to settle again, and begin to seem a little less blue, dimming in color. ]
We've already lost two of our number, Laurence. [ softly. ] And I don't know about you, but there are details about our lost souls I do not want to forget.
[ baby. weh. thankfully taair is calm in the face of it - and observant, too, observant enough to watch him physically prickle. gentle, but steady, in return. ]
I know you do. [ though the latter point kind of brings it back to the reason for a chronicle, anyway. ] Right now, the loss of Charlie and the general is fresh in our minds. But if people act as though it never happened today, a few days later.. how might they act in a few weeks? In eight weeks, when all is said and done?
Time sands the edges of memory. I want to write to ensure that never happens.

I haven't had any issues with my voice, but...
[ touches his hair where there's a laurel crown of white and yellow flowers and leaves. ]
Maybe it's like this?

What a strange week this is already turning out to be...

You've got plenty of time to try some things while we're stuck here, if you're that interested.
[ he never saw the need to spend time on such things but there aren't any rules here to make him care enough to stop anyone else from it. ]
Who would read that? They probably can't send it back to anyone alive, right? And we're right here with you already.

I don't think those are the kinds of peoples that read stuff like memoirs in the first place, Mr. Taair. Even I don't, most of the time.
