Nine hours is an incredibly short amount of time for such proceedings. It is more than most are offered in my homeland, but... less, all the same.

[ considering how they didn't even have an accused person to start with! he knows how trials work and it's not supposed to be like that, but he is unaware of murdergame conventions. ]

... I'm afraid I did not. I did not have the opportunity to speak with him before, and it seemed inappropriate to press him for answers, as a near-stranger...

The general and I bonded over a mutual love of birds, early in the week. I brought one of my friends from the beach - [ a nod towards where some seagulls are vibing ] - to visit with him, and he did not respond, which was unusual.

Moreso than that, he acted... odd. As if the entire situation, from beginning to end, was a bore. That he merely acted and killed Charlie out of boredom. Though I did not know the general well, from Jiaoqiu's assessment and my own time speaking with him, he is an honorable, upright man.

It just seemed...odd.

Then... he did not seem entirely like himself? What could cause such a change in a person?

I wish that I knew... I tried to discern it from conversing with him, but... I could only see the symptom, not the cause.

It could be a trauma response, I think... but... I don't know. It was just very, very strange.

If only I could see as I normally do, I might be able to make some sense of such happenings.

Ordinarily, my third eye can see magla... particles of energy that make up what we call magic. It has a connection to the psyche, as well... I've heard it likened to seeing "auras."

In other words, I can see when magic is at work, and to some extent, where emotions are concentrated.
